ECO-Counter CITIX AI EVO Automatic Traffic Counters

Topics

One of today’s major challenges is sustainable mobility—meeting our transport needs without causing irreversible damage to the environment. In practice, this means creating conditions that make it unnecessary to own a car and, if we do own one, encouraging us to use it as little as possible.

To develop sustainable mobility, we need to plan and make informed decisions. How many cars use a street, and when is traffic at its peak? How many people cross at a pedestrian crossing? How many cyclists pass through a town square? In other words, to determine whether public transport should be strengthened, a new cycle path built, or an additional pedestrian crossing installed, we need reliable data on the volume of different transport modes and how they change over time.

ECO-Counter is a French company that has specialized in monitoring active mobility since its establishment, focusing primarily on counting pedestrians and cyclists. It uses sophisticated counting technologies based on the physical characteristics of people and bicycles. However, for more complex traffic monitoring—such as at intersections—these conventional counters may not always be sufficient. For this reason, ECO-Counter also offers the CITIX AI EVO video-based traffic counter.

The CITIX AI EVO can identify and count up to eight categories of road users within its field of view: pedestrians, e-scooter riders, cyclists, motorcycles, passenger cars, vans, trucks, and buses. At the same time, it supports up to six independent counting profiles, enabling traffic to be monitored simultaneously at six different locations from a single installation point.

CITIX counters are typically mounted on poles, buildings, or other suitable structures at a height of 4 to 8 metres. They can monitor an area of up to 30 × 30 metres. Powered by a standard 230 V electrical supply, the counters transmit data every 15 minutes to the ECO-Visio central platform, where the information can be viewed, analysed, and exported.

One of the key advantages of the CITIX AI EVO is its superior accuracy in counting active modes of transport, particularly pedestrians and cyclists, compared with conventional camera-based traffic counters that are primarily designed to detect motor vehicles. This makes the CITIX AI EVO an ideal solution for locations where accurate monitoring of both motorised and active transport is essential.
