The EEA Civil Society Fund Slovakia will launch its new 2025–2029 programme period with a ceremonial opening event to be held on 22 January 2026 at Tabačka Kulturfabrik in Košice. The event will officially mark the start of the new programme period of the Fund, which focuses on supporting civil society, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in Slovakia, with the support of the EEA Grants and the donor countries Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
The opening speeches will be delivered by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Susan Eckey, and the Programme Director of the EEA Civil Society Fund Slovakia, Peter Medveď. The keynote address on the protection of rights and the support of vulnerable groups will be given by Róbert Dobrovodský, the Public Defender of Rights. The programme will also include a panel discussion on the state of civil society in Slovakia, as well as a presentation of the main goals and priorities of the programme for the years 2021–2028.
The event will also highlight the importance of international exchange of experience and bilateral cooperation. Representatives of Frivillighet Norge will present insights from Norway on building trust, coordination, and resilience within civil society. The aim is to create space for transferring inspiring approaches into the Slovak context and for developing long-term partnerships between organisations in the Slovak Republic and the donor countries.
Through this event, we will symbolically open a new programme period supporting initiatives with the potential to bring positive change to society.
