Planting in Pezinok concluded the spring round of plantings. In the autumn grant round, we are collecting ideas until May 31
Almost 2,500 trees have been planted so far thanks to the Planting the Future initiative, which was announced by the Ekopolis Foundation last October. On Tuesday, May 24, the spring round was completed with a symbolic planting in Pezinok. Active communities can still apply for the opportunity to plant the right trees in the right places in the autumn call at www.sadimebuducnost.sk.
In the Planting the future initiative, the Ekopolis Foundation combined efforts to protect the environment, long-term support of community projects and people’s growing interest in how we can really help our country. In the spring of 2022, the foundation supported 8 tree planting projects, one of which is a project of the civic association Dedičstvo and is called “Vineyard Alley”.
The aim of the Alley to Vineyards project is to revive the entrance from the inner city to the wild nature by planting a new alley. In the first stage, on a section of approximately 200 meters, 20 trees of domestic species such as small-leaved linden, winter oak, summer maple, milk maple and bird’s rowan were planted. On Tuesday, May 24, the planting of trees in Pezinok was completed with the planting of 2 willow trees with the participation of the mayor of Pezinok, Igor Hianik.
“The vineyards on the southern slopes of the Little Carpathians are inextricably linked to Pezinok, and this line of trees along the road will contribute to the perfection of the scenery of the country. The new avenue of oaks, lindens and maples will create shade in the future, which will be important in the increasingly hot days. Together with the willows planted today in more specific, wetter places, they will support the biodiversity of the area, as well as the adaptation of the landscape to climate change,” says Marián Šipoš, a representative of the local community that planned and implemented the plantings.
In total, the program has so far supported plantings in more than 30 locations throughout Slovakia with the participation of roughly a thousand volunteers. In this way, the program wants to support the fulfillment of the European Commission’s goal of planting at least 3 billion trees in the EU by the end of 2030.
