Cities for people

We want towns and cities in Slovakia to be towns and cities for the people. This concept, known abroad as a SMART Cities, defines a new approach to the management (control) of towns based on four priorities, namely investment in human and social capital, investing in transport and communication infrastructure, smart management of natural resources and a participatory approach.

Our Projects:

PROJECT MOVECIT  – The Ekopolis Foundation realise in cooperation with the city of Banská Bystrica and other European partners project MOVECIT, which is supported under the Interreg Central Europe. Aim of the project is to create mobility plans for institutions.

PROJECT SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY – The project is part of the national project of the Office of the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for the Development of Civil Society entitled Supporting Partnership and Dialogue in the Field of Participatory Creation of Public Policy which is financed by the operational programme Effective Public Administration. The specific output of the project will be an audit in line with the ADVANCE methodology, including an action plan and recommendations for sustainable urban mobility planning for Banská Bystrica.

REVITALIZATION OF PUBLIC SPACES IN B. BRAUN AREA – In 2017, Ekopolis Foundation continued in cooperation with B. Braun, which was involved in the revitalization of the site at the dialysis centre in Galanta. The aim of the project was to make the premises around the new facility more appealing for senior citizens and clients with minor mental disabilities; the new centre is operated by B. Braun following the building’s modernization.

In addition to realising the grant programmes we have also focused on our own projects and activities through which we seek to get to the forefront issues that are closest to us and thanks to which towns for the people come into being in Slovakia. Topics, which are important for us, focus on the promotion of healthy lifestyles, quality public spaces, biodiversity conservation and development of sustainable mobility. Through our own projects and activities, we want to inspire and educate residents and communities in Slovakia.

In Banská Bystrica we started a series of events called Garden disputation. Held in an informal atmosphere (such as sitting in your garden), these awareness educational events, in conjunction with a discussion (dispute), are designed for representatives of NGOs, local government and the corporate sector.

Our work also includes consultation, advisory services for the public and businesses, and the planning and creation of public spaces with public participation.
