The Green Oasis from Nitra Received the Most Votes. Financial Support Was Awarded to Ideas Across All Regions of Slovakia


It’s decided. This year, volunteers will create green spaces in 26 locations across Slovakia. Eighteen projects received direct support through the Green Oasis grant program, while funding for eight additional projects depended on public voting using a simple rule: the more votes, the more funding.

Voting took place from early February to early March on the website oazy.sk. Eight projects represented the eight regions of Slovakia. “Each project started with a base amount of 1,000 euros and competed to increase it. We collected 6,095 valid votes. This high level of interest is a testament to the quality of the projects included in the vote,” said Ľubica Štúberová, program manager of the Green Oasis program at the Ekopolis Foundation.

The most successful project was “The Alley Unites Us” from the Prameň neighborhood in Nitra. With the help of local residents and students from nearby schools, the community plans to plant long-living trees, build raised flower beds, a green wall, and install beehives.

  • On the Way from Desert to Oasis – Jolly Homeschool Private Primary School, Bratislava Region, 447 votes
  • Tree Planting Along Cycling Paths – Association of Municipalities in the Klátovské Rameno Microregion, Trnava Region, 89 votes
  • The Alley Unites Us – Alej na Prameni, o.z., Nitra Region, 2,077 votes
  • In the Spirit of Sustainability – GaBa Civic Association, Trenčín Region, 387 votes
  • Reviving Our Urban Orchards – Town of Lučenec, Banská Bystrica Region, 350 votes
  • Community Garden in Liptovský Mikuláš – LIPA – Liptov Activists, OZ, Žilina Region, 528 votes
  • Natural Air Conditioning from Fruit Trees – Primary School with Kindergarten Spišské Bystré, Prešov Region, 461 votes
  • Green Fruit Oasis Vyšný Hámor – SPIŠ Sports Club, Košice Region, 1,756 votes

By the end of October 2023, volunteers across Slovakia will plant new tree alleys, fruit orchards, or create community gardens. Support will also go to other green initiatives that contribute to richer biodiversity, a better environment, and stronger community cohesion. More information is available at www.oazy.sk.

List of Supported Projects for the Green Oasis Program 2023The Green Oasis grant program has been financially supporting meaningful ideas and projects focused on tree planting and green solutions for 17 consecutive years. Since its inception, it has supported 418 projects across Slovakia and allocated over 1 million euros. The program is managed in cooperation with its donor, Slovnaft, a.s., and the Ekopolis Foundation.
