A public vote participated in Green oasis Project
Slovakia will soon have 23 new or revitalized green areas. Volunteers will use 60 000 EUR from the Green oasis Grant Program to create new areas or upgrade the existing ones.
For the first time in 14 years, the general public was involved in selecting the winners of the environmental program organized by Ekopolis Foundation and Slovnaft. A green oasis with the largest public fan basis in each reagion made it to the top 23.
Grant money will help revitalize interesting and useful projects. Village of Malinovo will get a new cherry tree alley, Ďarmoty –citizens association will revitalize a nature trail on traditional trades, a new cyclopoint and a communal centre in Vinohrady, focused on ecological viniculture, will be created. Public vote decided the financial aid will be granted to a revitalization project of the walnut alley located between Horné Orešany village and a monastery, as well as to a construction project of a nature trail along Hron river meanders nearby Telgárt.
In February, the expert commitee chose eleven most interesting projects out of 179 grant applications, to receive the grant directly. Other 26 projects ran for public support in March. Particiapant got total of 19 114 votes combined. Financial aid was granted to twelve projects with the most votes.
“The actual works on green oasis will be caried out from April to October 2020. Of course, all participants will have to observe strict safety measures aimed to prevent spreading of coronavirus.” says Milan Hronec, a program manager in Ekopolis Foundation.

Green oasis progam serves to support permanent care of public areas, protect the nature and promote sustainability. During 14 years of existence of Green oasis Program, Ekopolis Foundation and Slovnaft have been motivating citizens in NGOs, municipalities, school facilities and leisure centres to create, renew and revitalize ecologically valuable locations and trails.
